5 Steps to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile

I confess I am a LinkedIn Evangelist! Guilty as charged! You can see me often using my iPhone and being deep in my thoughts while reading news from various posts during my short breaks throughout the workday as I am switching between projects or long meetings. I find this to be enjoyable and relaxing as well as educational. Further, I feel connected to the world at any time, anywhere! To me, this is absolutely priceless.

Often I start my day with a quick read from some of my favorite influencers’ posts such as Guy Kawasaki, Arianna Huffington, Richard Branson, and Jeff Weiner, CEO at LinkedIn. This is my way of keeping informed about a wide range of topics by people I trust and respect, staying connected to and learning from some of the most respected thought leaders, and gain exposure to some of the most enticing opportunities.

It gets even better: Why am I a LinkedIn Evangelist? As Jeff Weiner shares in the video “Building a Culture of Compassion,” it is a concept that resonates so much with me; allowing me to connect with people who have so much knowledge and who are willing to share it with me and others in their profound words of wisdom and supportive mentorship through the LinkedIn platform. It is an excellent avenue to connect with like-minded individuals and to attract high-caliber leaders who also see and value what I bring to the table, too.

Further, professionals often ask me what benefits I am seeing on LinkedIn. I always pause and think – “where do I start??” In my mind, the benefits are endless. I am so impressed to see, how over the years LinkedIn continues to be an innovative and creative company continuously offering tremendous value to its users, especially with the additional opportunities they offer with paid accounts.

By unlocking the power of LinkedIn, you can power up your professional life by:

1. Branding Yourself the way you want – a unique way to stand out from the crowd

2. Sending InMail Messages directly to individuals of interest – no more need to wait for introductions through your connections

3. Accessing more specific information and statistics about your account such as “Who’s viewed your profile” it is an excellent feature that provides you with valuable insights about your account

4. Creating Your Own LinkedIn Posts and sharing them with your groups and the overall LinkedIn network by offering additional value within your domain

5. Leveraging “Profile Organizer” by tracking profiles of interest in specific industries and roles so you can organize them in the folders and add specific details, such as contact information and notes
