Just got back from the #1 most innovative city in the US. NYC is one of the most outstanding, innovative cities for many reasons. But there is so much work yet to be done, offering tremendous opportunities to improve, innovate, and invest.
People you get to meet and talk to such a diverse group in one single day, if you are truly open, can stretch your mind to a new, accelerating dimensions.
“We need the disruption of categories that lead us to abandon the difficult, the disagreeable, and the least likely to go very far.” ~ Greg Boyle
In the city full of energy and some of the most talented individuals, it is hard not to notice a new dynamic between top talent and companies. What is shifting and what will not stop anytime soon (if ever) is leadership that has the glocal traits (effective local, global and virtual leadership) and capacity (including emotional intelligence and agile project management) not only to attract but also to keep the top talent. Why? Without top talent, you are not going anywhere fast today nor tomorrow! Talk about competition and new perspective to many Fortune 500 companies. It is like the best tennis match that US Open gave us on Sunday during the men’s finals.
In case you are wondering what is needed from both sides of the coin (talent and organizations), you may want to explore the following four key elements that Glocal Leaders do:
1. Support Employees Purpose – Giving the opportunity for the talent to engage and give back in a new way not only to the organization but also to the community. How to accomplish this fast and efficiently? By recognizing and appreciating the exceptional talent that also wants and can make a tremendous impact in addition to completing their job so well.
“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” ~ John F. Kennedy
2. Nurture Conscience Driven Business – It is essential to raise the bar not only in the profit line but also overall business day-to-day operation and practice. The more you are setting up a conscience-based mindset, you will allow the top talent to take transformation, innovation, creativity, learning, engagement, collaboration, organizational change and life balance on the steroids within your organization. Did I mention long-lasting partnerships?
“There is a higher court than courts of justice and that is the court of conscience. It supersedes all other courts.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
3. Cultivate New Business Model – Exceptional capacity to use technology, especially social media that extends glocally! Where and how to start? Know your organization stats! Track the information in the way that is providing you with 360 degrees eagle view when discussing and deciding on the business strategies. The key is to allow the change when it is needed and offers a new direction.
“ The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.” ~ Ray Kroc
4. Foster Glocal Mentorships & Partnerships – Find and solve current glocal issues from the standpoint of an opportunity instead of as a problem for your current and future clients. Allow new partnerships and mentorships to take a place to drive growth and changes faster in addition to financial rewards.
“ The task of leadership is not to put greatness into people, but to elicit it, for the greatness is there already.” ~ John Buchan
As we look at any given point around us, especially in NYC, we can see many disruptions take a place simultaneously. Just pause and take a look…
I was so eager and ready to finish my stay in NYC with a big bang by watching the tennis match at the US Open between and Roger Federer in person live. This was truly dream come true. To my amazement several unexpected things occurred, one a weather factor that delayed the game, the other was while the game was delayed, I had the opportunity to talk to some of most brilliant business minds. The best part, flying JetBlue gave me the opportunity to see the game while safely flying home in real time instead of waiting to see a recording and learn the results upon landing. You got to love disruptions and disrupters.
